While visiting Cuernavaca, I became fascinated by Tetela del Monte.  Here is some of what I learned.

Una pared de olas. Tetela del Monte es un pueblo famoso por la capilla de los Tres Reyes Magos construida en el siglo XVI bajo la orden de los franciscanos. - Wikipedia

La capilla y jardín rodeados. La pared fue diseñado y construido por John Spencer de Inglaterra utilizando su propio dinero.

El centro de la comunidad.  En las tardes, los niños juegan en el muro, mientras los músicos tocan sus instrumentos y cantan. Todos platica, come, y ríe mucho.

 

La Fiesta de los Tres Reyes -- cada enero. Process Disclaimer: These stories of places I've explored are written as part of my Spanish language journey. Therefore, they are most likely flawed. My process is to write the stories in Spanish, using the language I have at the time ... occasionally finding a new word in Google Translate (GT) when needed. My new words are highlighted so I can add them to my study list.

After writing a paragraph, I put the Spanish into Google Translate to see if the English represents what I'm trying to say. If it does, I then copy and paste it into the left column and change the language to English. That gives me GT's take on what the Spanish should be. This is where I start to learn by comparing the two versions and asking myself why they are different. The result of this comparison and any changes that come out of it is what you see here.

I am working with a coach who will also check these pages. When he has deemed them correct, I will add the word (verified) to the title.

Tetela del Monte

I discovered John Spencer's wall while visiting Cuernavaca. It is a magical place and I used it as a homework piece and made a short video of it. Feel free to use it in your studies.

En Tetela del Monte, un pueblo en Cuernavaca, hay una pequeña capilla construida en 1817. El nombre de esta capilla es Los Tres Reyes Magos. Hay una pintura famosa en la capilla, pero desde muchos años y con la destrucción del terremoto, la comunidad perdió interés en la capilla y el jardín que la rodea.

Entonces John Spencer, un hombre de inglaterra llegó en Cuernavaca. Él era un artista y un católico. Durante más de treinta años él trabajó en la construción de un muro alrededor de la capilla. Sin duda es un muro único en al mundo. Un muro ondulante. Es un muro de olas, espirales, círculos, y sorpresas. El muro rodear la capilla convirtiéndola un lugar mágico.

Ahora la capilla y la comunidad y los visitantes nacionales e internacionales se reúnen para celebrar el Día de los Reyes Magos cada enero en este lugar creativo e inspirante.
