Gramática Básica: Gender areement

One of the first and most basic points of grammar in Spanish is gender agreement. Nouns are either male or female (with a few exceptions) and they are either singular or plural. 

One of the best ways to learn nouns is with the appropriate article ... el gato, la canción. One of the best videos I've found to give you a solid grounding in the rules and exceptions is this one from Señor Jordan.
